My first gig in Brighton is coming up on Friday 11 September. Saxophonist Nathan Hassall, pianist Paolo Losi and I will be putting on a night of the music of Ella Fitzgerald and Ben Webster – namely sublime standards, swing tunes and ballads.
It’s the first themed concert I’ve done – and obviously while I don’t sound like Ella, I hope to at least do justice to some of her best-loved repertoire, as well as her lesser-known recordings.
All the details are below – if you’d like tickets, you can get them on the door, or get in touch with me and I will reserve how many you would like. Cheers!
Andrea Mann (vocals)
Nathan Hassall (saxophone)
Paolo Losi (piano)

Performing the music of Ella Fitzgerald and Ben Webster, this classy jazz trio will emulate two of the most creative musicians in jazz during its golden swing period. The famous pairing of Ella’s sublime vocals and Ben’s effortlessly cool saxophone ad libs can be found on many classic albums from the 1940s and ’50s, and so for this concert the trio will perform timeless classics composed by the likes of Duke Ellington, Cole Porter and George Gershwin.
